Why we love Marcella.
From client to instructor, we’ve learned that Marcella is nothing but hardworking, selfless, and really f***ing funny. We think she might be a superhero. Not because she’s so fit, but because she just doesn’t stop making a positive impact on people’s lives. She makes us fit ‘n happy in the AM, then she bravely teaches 1st graders (so much patience *sigh*), and THEN she brings musical joy to people’s hearts when she DJs at night. When does she stop!? We’ve loved having her as part of our xFAM. Marcella - thank you for being our knight on a shining VersaClimber!
How has X-CORE changed/ IMPACTED YOUR LIFE?
Where do I start? I was looking for another group-based exercise class that was low-impact but challenging. I needed a new place to continue to my weight loss and personal journey and I wanted to continue to build strength without going to the gym and lifting all the time. I realized X-CORE provided everything I was searching for.
When I started to go to X-CORE I noticed how friendly everyone was. The more I went the more people I started to meet and I realized I was looking forward to seeing everyone each time I stepped into X-CORE. Elaine, Cora and the staff have always been so supportive and friendly and I have enjoyed every workout there. X-Burn is my new challenge and I love how clients and staff motivate me to try on new challenges.
Where are you from originally?
I grew up in Stockton, California and moved to SF in 1996. I have lived in Oakland for 15 years.
What is your favorite restaurant in Oakland?
Shimizu Sushi
What do you like to do for fun?
I like to relax and travel, visit with friends and family, garden and workout. My biggest hobby is DJing.
fun facts about you
I love dogs! I had a pitbull and a boxer. I wish I could save all dogs and open a dog sanctuary. Another fun fact is I have been a DJ for various clubs and events in the Bay area for the last 17 years. (Age ain’t nothing but a number!)
What’s your day job?
I teach first graders on the daily. I have been a teacher for 18 years in Berkeley.
Favorite quote?
One positive thought in the morning can change your whole day. Have faith and be thankful.
Who inspires you?
My parents and my family. They have taught me to be a strong and positive woman and to persevere through life’s challenges.
Also, women who celebrate their bodies that may not fit in our societal norms are very inspirational. Their confidence inspires me.
Favorite x-CLIMB move?
I love squats on the bottom rails but I also love the challenge of full-extension.
Why do you love this workout?
I use to love running by myself but I had to find something else that was a low-impact workout since I have so many knee problems. I found it! X-Climb is an energetic, challenging and quick workout. I have never had such a strong core until I started climbing. It targets the whole body (physical and mental) and I always have so much fun.. I forget about everything else and focus on my next challenge when I hit the X-Climb room.
